Year 7 Team Building Day Strengthens Connections and Confidence

Held on campus, the day brought together students from all Year 7 classes for a series of rotating, collaborative challenges that encouraged communication, creativity, and problem‑solving. Guided by staff and external activity leaders, the 179 students rotated through a variety of tasks that required them to think strategically, support one another, and step outside their comfort zones.
From fast‑paced physical challenges to intricate team puzzles, each activity was carefully planned to highlight the importance of cooperation and resilience. Students quickly discovered that success depended not on individual ability, but on listening, sharing ideas, and working as a united group.
Teachers noted how quickly many new friendships formed throughout the day. Many students who had only met a week earlier were soon sharing their strengths, working together, celebrating small wins, and reflecting on what effective teamwork looks like.
Deputy Head of Middle School, Mr Nathan Stephenson said the day plays a vital role in helping students settle into high school life. “The Year 7 Team Building Day gives our Year 7s the chance to connect in a fun, low‑pressure environment. It helps them develop trust, build confidence, and feel part of a supportive community from the very beginning of their Middle School journey. The focus was on leadership in action and developing four habits to help them succeed in high school including acknowledging strengths, learning from mistakes, empowering yourself, and respectful relationships.”
As the school year unfolds, the skills and connections formed during the day will continue to shape the way Year 7 students collaborate, communicate, and contribute to the Grammar school community.
