The Push-Up Challenge - teachers vs students
Through the month of May we've been supporting and raising awareness for mental health.
As students come back to school after COVID-19 isolation, we thought it would be good to have an initiative for Year 10 to 12 students to raise awareness for mental health, work together as a team and refocus our energy.
Teachers and students put together five teams. Each team member was required to complete a set number of push-ups every day.
Each day, the target number of push-ups to complete reflected a different statistic to do with mental health in Australia. For example, 45 push-ups recognises the percentage of Australians who will experience a mental health condition over their lifetime.
5 teams. 3,046 push-ups per team member.
21 days to complete!
Over the course of 21-days, students and teachers were challenged to complete 3,046 push-ups in total, representing the number of lives lost in Australia to suicide in 2018.
Ms Bronywn File, senior school teacher said, "Mental health is the leading cause of death for young people between age 15 to 44. Just last year over 3000 people took their lives so this is a really important cause for us to support, create awareness for our young people and have them to do something positive together."
